September 19th, 2010 (Sunday): Vamana Jayanthi: The Vedic Yagya Center will be performing a very special Vishnu Sahastranama Homam. This is especially ideal for those who incurring any problems associated with the 'Graha Doshas' (Problems resulting from negative aspects in the birth stars). September  23rd - October 7th, 2010: Mahalaya Paksha (Pitru Paksha): The dark fortnight of Asweja (September-October) is known as the Mahalaya Paksha or the fortnight specially dedicated to the sacred offering to the dead ancestors' souls. The last day of this period, the new moon day, is considered to be the most important day in the year for performing obsequies and rites. On Mahalaya Amavasya, Brahmin Santarpana (massive feeding) is performed on behalf of dead ancestors to provide them peace in their world. The Vedic belief is that the Shraadha ritual performed on this Amavasya makes their dead ancestors free from all the sins they have committed when they were alive and provides them with salvation.
